A Bird in the Hand
Question:
A pigeon has made its nest on the window ledge of my son's bedroom. There are three eggs there. Should we perform shiluach haken? If so, how do we do it and what do we do with the eggs? Do we display them in our living room, as I have heard others have done?
Answer:
Do you want the eggs? If your son will use the eggs, you are only allowed to get them by following the laws of shiluach haken.
If you have no use for the mother or the eggs other than the fulfillment of the mitzva, you have not fulfilled the mitzva. So don't even bother trying.
